Tracking My Learning Week 6

Task Description:
For this week's task, we had to fill in some questions from a video about the digestive system in our body. This is my work, and what I did. Hope you enjoy!

Being the Youngest

the Youngest:

Hello, are you the youngest in your Family? Well I am. Hmm, what it’s like
being the youngest, well, some of my cousins are my age, but I'm still the
youngest out of them. Also my friends. My older siblings can treat me
differently, and different times. 

For example, one minute, my sister will mock me for something really
stupid, and then a while later, she’ll be all kind and forgiving. Being the
youngest child, I think that it’s actually pretty cool. Being the youngest,
sometimes, I guess you get spoiled, by your parents, uncles, aunts, big
brothers and sisters. I know other people who are the youngest in their
Families as well.

There are a lot of pros and cons for being the youngest. Pro.1 (i’m not
complaining about this by the way,) you get some hand-me-downs from
your older siblings, of anything (clothes, toys, cars, shoes, other stuff.)
Pro.2 when your older siblings get jobs, and paid, then you might get stuff
from them (like food, more clothes, other stuff.) 

Pro.3  you can get lots of attention. Pro.4 if you and your siblings do
something bad or not allowed, then your parents will probably growl them
off for whatever you or they did. For example, the other day me, some of
my cousins, and my sisters, missed out on a bit of a thanksgiving service,
and if our parents cared a bit more, we knew that they were going to growl
off the older ones, and not me or Toby. 

Pro.5 if you are the youngest, maybe some other family members will treat
you well because you are the youngest, for example some of my aunt's
take me and my sisters out sometimes, and we go shopping, get something
to eat, and hang out. I am the youngest, and last time we did that, I got
some new shoes, and me and my sisters also got a feed!

Well, sometimes if you are the youngest, you might think that it sucks,
but I think it’s great, or okay. If you just read this whole story, thanks for

Digestive System

Task Description:
For this week's task, we had to watch a video about digestion, and different food types. Then we got a sheet of paper with different words and a couple of sentences from the video, cut them out, organise them, and glue them onto the paper. Also for this task, we each needed a buddy, and my buddy was my friend Zaeeda. Me and Zaeeda did not only complete this task, but we also decorated the paper, made a slide about it and what we learnt, and finished it. So here it is, our work. Hope you enjoy!

Bilingual Writing

  Being Bilingual why or why not? 

What do you think about being bilingual? Do you think that it’s good or bad? If you are bilingual, then good on you! But if you aren’t, then this is for you. Bilingual means knowing  more than one language. For example, if you know English, and you want to learn/know more languages, then you can learn them, and by bilingual. Get it? Ok so then let's start.

First, here are the reasons for bilingual being good. To start off, one reason being bilingual is good, is that you can communicate with different people in different countries, in different languages, all over the world! For another example (again,) if you go to another country where your grandparents live, or family member lives, and they don’t know your normal language, then you could know/learn that language, and then you would be able to talk to them in that language, and also different people in that country!    

Also, apparently being bilingual improves your smartness in your brain (basically, makes you a bit smarter, or helps you to learn new/different things.) Being bilingual isn’t bad, it’s great to do and know different things, and different languages.

Next, here are some reasons for being bilingual, a not so good thing or choice. Some times, people that are bilingual, can get mixed up with all of their languages that they know, and their brains just go blank, they don’t know any little bit of their new languages. But just wait for a minute, there are some good and the not so good things about being Bilingual. 

Learning new languages (and being bilingual,) can be overwhelming, because you don’t know which language to speak, and your brain just picks both languages, and you end up speaking gibberish. You will also have to work hard on learning those (if you try,) and it may be hard because you’ll always be kind of used to just one, but you’ll still get it if you try! It doesn’t matter what age you are, just try if you want to.

Zebra fish Research

Task Description:
For this task, we had to write down what we learnt and picked up on this day about zebra fish, how they live, what they are, and what scientist are doing. This is what me and my buddy/classmate, Tha Zin, put into this presentation. Hope you enjoy!

K.P.M.G!

Today, we went to K.P.M.G, which stands for Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler. First we took the pretty long bus ride there and then, when we got there, we had to walk around the corner and we saw the building. They welcomed us all into the building, and we all went into a cool room that had three TV's, an open space, a few table's, and some bean bags in it.

We all sat down and someone called Justine who works at K.P.M.G, explained a bit about what we were going to be doing today. After she told us about that, she invited all of the workers in the room to come and introduce themselves to us. They all did that, and we got to know them pretty well. And then two people called Susan and Lucy came up to the front, and told us a bit about their jobs, and ecology, and some information about water. 

Next, it was time for morning tea. For morning tea, we had some fruit sticks, and scones (which were really nice.) It was then time to walk about five minutes to Sustainable Coastlines, where a nice lady let us ask some questions and explained a bit more about water and more sea creatures. On the way back to K.P.M.G. I walked next to my friend Zaeeda, and we were at the front of the line, and got to talk to someone called Holly. She was very nice, and she even agreed on some of the things that me and Zaeeda said that we don't like! Then we went to the K.P.M.G. building, and we learnt a bit from Miro, who works at K.P.M.G. and we split up into different groups, and learnt about different Maori gods. Then it was time for lunch!! The lunch that we had was amazing and delicious. There were burgers, salad, fruit sticks, mini flat bread/pizza thingies, and it was just great! 

After that, every team got to build their own robot with the objects that K.P.M.G provided. My team built a pretty cool robot that was supposed to pick up the rubbish, and sort it into the right piles, and ask the owner for the right directions on how to do things as well. After that, sadly it was time to leave, so we all got ready to go, and we thanked them all, and walked back around the corner to the bus. Then we went back to school, and all wrote blog posts, and here is mine, so thank you very much for reading!

Task Description:

Jedida Recording at Hard Materials

In this photo it shows all of the eight idea's that I had, and I had to choose one to build. I chose a Jeep. Down below, it shows my Jeep so far. I know it has no wheels YET, but it will have some soon. Today I am working on it right now, and trying to improve it. Hopefully I finish it before I move on to my next class for Tech! 

I used a Saw, Square, Ruler, Bench hook, to make a full size working drawing or my Jeep because then I can use the measurements on the paper to help me measure the actual Jeep. I used a pencil to copy the measurements from my drawing onto the wood, also to help me cut it. I marked a square line at 90o across, and using a square. I cut off the first piece of wood using a saw. I then marked out where the joint was going to go on the bigger piece of wood, and I checked with Mr Grundy if the joint measurement was right, and he approved. Then I cut both of the sides using a saw. After that, I missed one day of Tech for an important Family thing, and then it was the holiday's, then it was the first week of term 3, and then, I think that Tamaki College had a teacher parent day, so there was no tech. But now it's this week, and I'm back at Tech, so I am working more on my project/Jeep, and i am hoping to get it done/finished before the end of the lesson's.
