2020 Extension Reflection

2020 (as you know,) has been very unusual due to the virus. There are lots of highlights and lowlights to this year. For example, one highlight: during lockdown, I got to hang out with my family, and do family activities together. One lowlight: we had to stay inside for most of level four unless one person from he house had to go shopping. During lockdown, I went to the same classes, maths, literacy, and home class, and even extension. 

Firstly, term one is hard to remember because it feels so long ago. But I do remember that it was close to the end of a school day, and then we heard Mr Burt call out on the speaker that we were going into lockdown. This made me both happy (because I was going to sleep in, and spend time with my family,) and also worried because I didn't know how the future would look, and how the rest of this year would go, and also because the virus sounded very dangerous, and like it had already hit a few people, or even countries.

Next, term two it started with everyone still in lockdown, and online learning starting back up again after a two week holiday (in lockdown.) Term two is also a bit hard to remember, but I do remember doing lots of learning online, and seeing my friends and teachers on google meets. 

Then, after a long second term, it was term three. In the beginning of term three, exciting things were happening, including year 8 camp, and then another lockdown. After lockdown, the rest of term 3 happened, and then term 4 started. Term 4 has been quite exciting, with different things and events happening, and also lots of warnings and advice college. Overall, 2020 has been quite a weird year, and if I could thank all of the essential workers, I would. That is my reflection.

Hinewehi Mohi: Reo Change maker T3W9

Task Description:
This task is apart of reading this week. For this task, we had to read a text about Hinewehi Mohi, and answer some questions on a couple of slides.

Hinewehi Mohi Writing T3W9

Hinewehi Mohi started learning Maori at the age of 10. Her dad taught her and her sister. Hinewehi Mohi is fluent in Maori, and she has often credited her dad for helping her and her sister look more into the Maori culture. Her dad was not fluent, but he decided that speaking Maori was important, because it is a native language to New Zealand.

Hinewehi’s first album is called oceania. This album has 12 songs, which are all in Te Reo Maori. She was in London to promote her album, when she sang the national album in Maori. After getting a Bachelor of Arts at Waikato University in 1985, Hinewehi started reporting for primetime Māori slot Koha.

Hinewehi was born, and grew up in Hawke’s bay, Hastings (a city on the north island of New Zealand.(just if you didn’t know.) She attended St Joseph's college in Hastings. She also has a daughter, Hineraukatauri.

In 1999, Hinewehi Mohi sang the New Zealand national anthem in Te Reo at the world cup. This left people with different things to say like “we couldn’t sing along to our own anthem.” The national anthem in Maori was actually written three years after the english one was written. The Māori version is not a direct translation of the English version. God defend New Zealand was composed in the 1870s, and became a national anthem in 1977. Today, children in schools sing the national anthem in both Maori, and English.

Writing T3W9

Task Description:
For Te Reo Maori this week in literacy, we learnt about Hinewehi Mohi. For writing, we had to find out information abot Hinewehi Mohi, and write a writing.

Taha Wairua Things in a Classroom T3W9

Task Description: For Taha Wairua today, we had to create a poster of things that you could find in a classroom, in both English, and Maori.

Cross Country 2020

On Friday, we had our 2020 cross country run. When we got there, I noticed that the grass had been mowed, and people were all dressed up. This year, we did something a bit different. The year fours went first, then the year threes, twos, and ones. Then the year eights, sevens, six, and fives. The year eight's had the choice of running either one, or two laps around the reserve. The girls and boys were all put into two different lines for each year.

I think some others could agree with me, that when mr Burt is standing there ready to make the loud sound with the wooden thing (which means go,) and everybody is watching your year line up at the line, and the people who are coming back look quite tired, they start to get a bit nervous. Overall, this day was a mix of fun, tiring, and hot.

Te Reo Create Task Weather T3W9

Task Description:
For Te Reo this week (and Maori language week,) we focused on weather. Here is my create task for today. In this task, it shows someone asking their friend what the weather is like today, and the friend answering (in Maori, and English.) At the top of the drawing, it shows three items, a bottle of sunscreen, a jacket, and an umbrella.

Task Description:
This week for Te Reo, for Maori language week, we had to do a presentation about weather. Here is the presentation.

Taha Hinengaro Tai Chi T3W9

Task Description:
For this task, my class was given two video's to choose from (a yoga video, and a tai chi video.) We voted for the tai chi video. After choosing a video (and doing the tai chi from the video,) we had to write three things from the video, that could help with Taha Hinengaro.

Taha Whanau Special Occasion

Task Description:
This task was apart of Te Whare Tapa Wha this week. For this task, we had to create a poster/writing about a special occasion. Her is my poster about a birthday.

Different Weights

Task Description: This task included getting/learning information about measuring, so that we could share this learning on our blogs for other people to leran too. This is the poster that I have done for the maths create task this week.

Celebration Assembly

Today we had an assembly dedicated to our lovely principle, Mr Burt. Mr Burt was given an award from the Queen, and we are very very proud of him. The assembly started normal. We said a prayer, sang the national anthem, gave out certificates, did lunch box heroes, and the quiz. Then the year 7 & 8's stood up and sang a song. One of the prefects then said a speech and lots of people gave him lays. 

Next, the year 7 & 8 boys, and some girls, and some of the support teachers did a Haka for Mr Burt. I
think that the Haka brought tears to some people's eyes, because I could see people wiping their tears.
I am very happy that we were able to celebrate Mr Burt's great achievement, and I am also happy that
he got an award for being such a hard worker. Thank you Mr Burt, and congratulations on your award!

Cross Country

Yesterday Pt England school had Cross Country. It started at 1:00, and went from year 1-8's (Like every year.) It went in an unusual order this year though. I know quite a lot of people who weren't very excited for cross country, but I also knew some other people that were very excited, so it was very mixed.

The time before cross country for each class was spent in home class. We got changed into our house colour clothes at 2:15, and I noticed most of the year 8's dressing up fully for their last year at Pt England. Then we all had morning tea, and an early lunch. Then, it was time for cross country. Everyone was getting ready, talking, putting sun screen on, everyone at the water station was setting up, and (Even though most of us had sun screen on on,) burning in the heat.

We all made it to the end, and for the best part, was the water after the run. By the way, as you might know I am a year 7, and so the year 7 and 8's had to fun 2 laps. So it was pretty tiring and hard, but every single year 7 and 8 that came and did it, made it, and most people did their best. I enjoyed doing cross country with one of my friends, she was very engorging towards everyone that passed us, and we finished it together.

After everyone got back from the year 7's, the year 8's were off to go for their turn, and me and my friends talked and watched the others run the run, and do their thing. After all of the year 8's made it to the finish line, we all went to our teachers and went back to class, and then home from there. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!
