Art Alive Expo 2020

 Art Alive Expo 2020,

Today, we had our art expo. This was quite interesting, and I really enjoyed walking around the school, and looking at different art pieces. First, we started at the new entries/ year 1's class rooms. There was a lot of art in these classrooms, and they were very stunning. Their artwork includes tie dye monsters, fish made out of paper plates, and animal portraits made out of paper plaits and paint.

These were very beautiful. I also spotted in the hallway of the year 1 classes, bubble art. This looked very cool, and I'm guessing they were fun to make. In room 18, there was art hanging on pieces of string, and half of a page of paper said dirty hands and showed painted hand prints below, and showed when the hands were clean. Then we went and saw the year 7 and 8 extension art, which was terrific. rm 19 had Piet Mondrian art, and room 21 had paper butterfly hanging from a string.  room 23 had tie dye shirts, and  team 3 overall had artwork that was fun to look at because of the vibrant colours included. Team 2 had different self portraits using different things like shapes and colour. 

   Team 4 had different pieces of art about each of their cultures. For example, Maori, Pacific, and more.

Team 5 had different artists for different classes. Room 11 had Sebastiao Salgado, room 5 had Andy Warhol, room 4 had Vincent Van Goph , room 3 had Georges Seurat, room 2 had Alberto Giacometti, and room 1 had Edvar Munch.

Extension Art T4W8

Task Description:

For extension art this term, I had to create a landscape which represents both me, and New Zealand ( the country where I live.) As you may be able to see, there is a Samoan beach fale and flag, and a table with an L&P bottle, pineapple lumps, and chips. All of these things are at a beach in New Zealand, so it all adds up together, to represent me, my culture, and my country.

This task was about algebra. For this task, there were different tasks, some were for years 7's, and some were for year 8's. After finishing these slides, we did a algebra pop quiz.

Art Alive Rotation: Alberto Giacometti T4W3

Task Description:

This task is apart of art alive (the inquiry theme for this term.) For this task (since we are doing class rotation,) we went to Ms Tapuke's class and learnt about Alberto Giacometti.

Plastic Pollution Explanation Writing

Did you know that it takes some plastic over 400 years to break down? Some of that plastic is slowly breaking down in our oceans, on land, and even in the stomachs of birds, fish, and sea animals. Plastic is made from natural materials such as cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt and crude oil. Plastic pollution is a big problem, and is killing the planet, and the creatures on it.

Firstly, microbeads. Microbeads are tiny bits of plastics that can be found in some products such as toothpaste, facial scrubs, hand sanitiser and more. But microbeads are not good for our oceans, Microbeads could leach toxic chemicals to any animal that consumes it. Microbeads are banned in some countries like Canada, USA, Sweden, France, UK, Scotland, Netherlands, Wales, South Korea, Taiwan, New Zealand, Northern Ireland and Australia.

Next, small packaging. lots of small packaging, and bits of plastic are found in animals (fish, birds, sea animals and more.) to solve this problem, we could buy things in bulk. By buying (foods, drinks, and more) in bulk, you don’t have lots of small packaging, but bigger containers and cardboard packaging that contains more, and isn’t small enough to fit in a sea turtle stomach. Things like single serving yogurts, or travel sized toiletries, could change into bigger containers of yogurt, and bigger tubes of toothpaste, soaps, and more toiletries.

A lot of plastic can be found holding your food, and maybe around the house. Plastic is a part of our daily lives, and it’s getting worse for the environment. We could reduce our use of plastic by (at the supermarket,) using reusable bags instead of plastic bags (which are banned in NZ), and (anywhere,) using metal water bottles instead of plastic water bottles, and maybe when you eat out, or even at home, instead of using plastic straws and cooking, and eating utensils, use metal, glass, or just reusable straws and cooking and eating utensils.

In conclusion, plastic is a problem on our planet, it can be found in lots of different things, including packaging, as microbeads in products. The microbeads in some products can lead to the ocean, and into fish, which people eat. But there are ways to replace it, for example, using mesh/reusable bags to carry our vegetables at the supermarket, or reuse packaging. You could reuse packaging for things like art, or to fix something. It’s much better in your house as art, then in a seagull's stomach. Remember the five R’s, reduce, reuse, recycle, re purpose, and refuse.
